Iniquitous Creatures

  • Grant St Theatre Building 872, Grant Street Southbank, Victoria Australia (map)

Take the west side escalators down into the guts of the Columbia Heights Metro Station and you'll be swallowed by the sound. A young woman tumbles from the back of a horse-drawn carriage as it narrowly avoids colliding with a speeding train. Two androids perform a series of exercises, drifting in and out of synchronicity. Nefarious creatures emerge from the shadows as night falls...

In the first concert in their 2018 series ‘Waves + Lines’, Rubiks presents works from five of the most exciting composers and storytellers working in contemporary music across the globe. Iniquitous Creatures features a program of premieres drawn from the ensemble’s collective experiences at the Bang on a Can Summer Festival (USA), Eighth Blackbird Creative Lab (USA) and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (CAN), highlighting some of the most unique and adventurous voices working in Australia, Europe and North America.

Rubiks are also proud to be partnering with CutCommon magazine, offering free copies of their inaugural print edition at Iniquitous Creatures.

This event is generously supported by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music’s New Music Studio and assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
