2018 Pythia Prize: 'Waiting' Video Launch

A favourite part of any Rubiks year is developing a new work with the latest winner of the Pythia Prize. Going into its fourth year, the Pythia Prize is an opportunity for a female or gender diverse composer to collaborate with Rubiks on a new work. Rubiks make ourselves freely available to the composer, enabling us to work together as collaboratively as possible.

L-R, 2017 winner Samantha Wolf, 2018 winner Christine McCombe and 2020 winner Bianca Gannon

The Pythia offering includes filming a video and audio recording of the final work, which is premiered at a live launch, followed by an online release. You can watch the video of ‘Want Not’ by Samantha Wolf (2017 winner) here.

Rubiks filmed ‘Waiting’ by 2018 winner Christine McCombe in December 2019, with plans to host a video launch in March 2020. Of course, Covid took over and this was not possible. The Rubiks team discussed with Christine possibilities of releasing this video online without a launch, however we all agreed it felt important to wait until we could celebrate together, in person.

On March 26 2021, we are incredibly excited to be finally releasing this wonderful video into the world! Join Rubiks and 2018 Pythia Prize winner Christine McCombe for a behind-the-scenes chat with the composer and a glass of wine with some excellent company.

This is a free event but bookings are essential.
