'The thin air between skins'

Our program Hush was inspired by a very special duo from Australian composer Annie Hui-Hsin Hsieh. In her duet ’The thin air between skins’, the flutist and cellist sit back-to-back and the piece is driven by the gesture of breath.

“I am keen to explore the scenario in which the inter-pre personal interactions between the duo of musicians are exaggerated and reacted upon.”
- Annie Hsieh

Annie is currently based in USA where her compositional interest focuses on music as an immersive physical experience, considering sonic expressions in terms of performative corporeality, affective aptitude and spatial constraints. She is currently an Assistant Teaching Professor at Carnegie Mellon University where she teaches courses in contemporary music analysis and application, sound art, and music theory.
